Steel Fabrication
Historically, construction materials and methods in rural Africa were very crude and simple, made from local sources. In most of rural Africa, buildings were constructed from bricks made from site clay. As shown in the above photo, workers place clay into wood forms where the clay dries. After this, the brick is cured with wood fires within stacks of bricks. Formwork for concrete structures is made from locally sourced poles and sticks.
Steel construction is not widely available in many parts of Africa. To develop a vibrant steel industry, industrial and structural welding skills need to be developed.
